Book Printing Machines – A Growing Segment

Book printing is a four-step process that goes through four stages of book production that starts with book printing, publishing, marketing and distribution. Once the book will be published and printed with the demand for printed books in the market, they will be custom-binded. Once the books are custom-binded they need to be tested for the strength of book binding.

The manuscript quality that is available to readers nowadays includes soft-bound and case-bound books that will suit the printing and binding needs which are offered in huge quantities ranging up to 50,000 or more. The book titles also play an important role in boosting up the sales of the binded books even though they are not contributing to the quality and service of the binding process.

The offset paperback and hard cover books provide quality through color and short and crisp text. In addition to it, the Digital paperback and hard cover books utilize the latest print technology that brings in extreme quality in the book prints. Once the book is published from the manuscript and goes for printing in the press.

These books will get distributed in the market it will outreach more book sellers and readers all over the world. The orders of fulfillment should be shipped efficiently. The specialty books will be custom-binded. The top-notch professionals in the business of book printing will get involved with publishing and distribution that are as easy as ever. The royalty structure of the books is committed to the industry-leading economics.

After printing the books in Book Printing Machines are kept in-stock without maintaining the inventory if they are made-to-order. The process for printing the book starts with keeping up of inventory stock to meet the demand. This inventory should be made up with affordable design, editing and marketing services. Through these stocks the book sellers earn competitive royalties depending on the reach of these books to distributors, online retailers, bookstores, libraries, academic institutions and distributors of different states without any additional costs.

Right now the whole printing industry is worried about the future of books, impact of emerging technologies and recommendations for publishers, authors and manufacturers in the current dynamic industry. It was interesting for the publishing experts to forecast the future of publishing industry and the need of experimenting with different ways of storytelling in the books. This industry should be entered in the digital age by evolving e-books that will look more pleasant by holding, feeling and owning them as ever before.

Book Printing Machines – Not The Real Challenge

Book printing can be performed by any of the book printing machines – be it offset or digital but the real challenge comes in when the binding process starts. The time taken for book binding mainly  depends on size of the book and the number of copies need to be created. Nowadays, the printing machines used for book printing are being introduced in the market with ‘finisher’ options in the printer to bind the books. Book binding can either be fulfilled manually or machine.

However, if less number of copies need to be produced, let’s say 10 or 20, they can always be photocopied for cost reduction. This is quite fast as well as cheap. Though there are different set ups and different machines to perform book printing but it is the speed, volume and efficiency that differentiates the processes from each other. Like to print short run books even a commercial print shop with an offset or letterpress machine are enough producing a 48 or 96 page book. But if the customer is not demanding instant production then even large volume of pages uptil 500 pages can also be produced in the same setup keeping the per unit price same.

Hence printing large volume in small infrastructure is not a costly affair. For prints more than 500 pages, offset printer will be a suitable choice as it is cheaper and simultaneously faster. It has been projected since a long time that book binding is time taking but for medium or large volumes the sewn or spine may not work.

Hence, it is advisable for the printers to segregate the book into two parts. Basically, these kind of books are printed over POD (Print-on-delivery).

The cost break-up of the entire total cost is again a very crucial affair to decide which printing press to go for. The general trend is that the author will take up 8-15% of the royalties for creation. Since the publisher is involved in playing the role of curator and also involved in polishing, marketing as well as manufacturing he deserves to have a share of 45-55% that includes author’s royalty also. The printing process will just incur 10% of the total price of the book.

The remaining 50% of the total cost will be divided between distributor and retailers in 4:1 ratio. The whole process on Book Printing Machines from pre-production to royalty stage covers a 5-stage process. The pre-production starts with an editor and graphic designer with the printing stage depending on ink, glue, paper etc. The market stage lets in book tour, NYT book review ad, printing and shipping galleries to journalists. The wholesaler plays a role of middlemen who can handle distribution for publishers and lastly, the author royalties will further provide its shares his piece of cake with publicist and agents.

Offset Lithography: A Machine For Lithographic Printing

Lithographic printing is a process of printing from a smooth surface of a metal plate or limestone to print on paper or a different substrate to print text or artwork. Earlier this method was used to release theatrical works. This comes under the category of Planographic printing which uses the immiscible property of grease and water such that the image and non-image areas can be easily classified. The image areas are grease-treated and the non-image areas are wet with moisture. Moisture repels ink.

When it comes to Offset, there is no direct printing involved. The ink first gets transferred from the plate to the rubber blanket and from rubber blanket to paper. This method follows the principle of repulsion of oil and water. This method is used for mass-production printing. It is also helpful to lengthen the life of plates. However, the substrate media can be canvas, cloth or wood which have a rough surface.

Irrespective of the volume of the job supplier has Web Offset Printing Machine produces high and uniform quality of images. Offset lithography is basically a three-stage process – pre press, on press and post press.

In Pre-press stage, the files are being transferred from designer to printer. The pre-press department then ensures that all files are properly packaged and all images are high resolution. After this the designer has to choose between spot or processed colors. Then is the stage of proofing that checks for color accuracy and imposition proofs. These proofs must be approved by the designer. This stage is carried out on plate cylinder.

On press stage is a make-ready process in which the ink is pressed on the pressman plates and then a test print follows. The final press-run should be signed by the designer which is followed by the printing of entire job. This stage is performed over offset cylinder.

The last phase is Post-press that will be executed on impression cylinder. The print is then dried on impression cylinder and the piece of work is folded. The final work is then packed into boxes for shipping it to desired destination. It also employs special processes like die-cutting, foil stamping, embossing, thermography etc.

The color scheme used in this process is CMYK that is cyan, magenta, yellow and black. An Offset printer employs labels to the printing work with their reference on the left margin with bold effect on the label fonts.

Working of Newspaper Printing Press

The production of newspaper will start only by collection of daily stories and directing them to their editors through electronic mails who are responsible for editing of these stories. After this, the news will move into the press which will start from the stage of pre-press.

In this stage of printing, the marketing department will inform the editors about the advertisements to be published on the specific page. Page planning is accomplished on a dummy sheet that goes to the graphic section via editorial section to translate dummy sheets into digital form. The designing of the newspaper columns starts from the computer on a particular software such as Corel Draw, Adobe page maker, Adobe-In-Design, Quark-Xpress and other graphic design software.

Once the stories are compiled and newspaper inserts are printed they will be out for the newspaper prints. Also, there are two stages in press – Lithographic and Impression stage. Depending on the printing technology used in the newspaper printing press, the sophisticated newspapers use CTP (Computer to Plate) and CTM (Computer to Machine).

In the lithographic section, the printed page of stories and advertisements get registered on the plate which is aluminium-like iron sheet in A3 size of newspaper that runs print on the printing machine. The function of CTP is to registers the pre-press information on the plate. A fixed plate is already present at Lithographic section to run prints.

Under the impression stage, the final outcome of the designed work comes out. This process is able to print thousand copies of newspapers to be circulated in many areas. The procedure includes hanging of plate over Printing Machines and number of copies will be in circulation and sold to readers. Generally, the newspapers scheduled for the next day has to be printed a day before the publishing day for both current and advanced pages. The current page includes the major news and advanced pages involve feature articles, editorial, letters to editor, opinions, advertisements etc.

The newspaper circulation is carried out over different distribution centres in the entire country. Hence, the machines that carry out this process of printing are very critical to maintain as they have to be continuously operational. Hence, the suppliers of these printing machines sometimes either need to import the machines from abroad or they can buy a local according to the quality of prints they want to deliver in order to achieve better readability.

Book Printing – A job performed on demand

Generally, printing books is a job performed in short-run printing that has a variety of easy-to-use templates for book design and quick service that helps in designing the book cover or to edit the book content. After downloading the template, the whole book will be printed at cheaper rate.

One print-run with book cover can be taken before printing the entire book. The use of the template is easy, cost-effective, super-friendly and gives good quality print. The paperback and the different colours of the books are also decided by the print-on-demand service. If one is executing a short print-run the run time will take less than two days.

The printing machine needs to be installed in a printing press that requires inked surface and a print medium. The printing press is generally used for printing large volumes. For printing a book, a Book Printing Machine is enough if utilized in a true art form. Typesetting for the book is mainly accomplished by the experts. This art is generally termed as “black art”. If there will be a computerized setting, the outcome will be more strict and indulge less physical labour.

Due to the Alphabetic monopoly, developed from printing, the role of image will get omit from the society. The role of artwork has been revamped in the modern times of printing.

Majorly, letterpress printing is to be used for the limited edition books for collectors whereas for bulk printing offset is preferred as high quality printing is not demanded. To print over 500 copies, that too with high quality reproduction, sheet-fed offset is used.

Tabloid Printing Machines Defining the power of compact

After listening the word ‘Tabloid’ it is highly likely that we all will raise our eyebrows as it is not a very common term as far as Printing machines are concerned. Originated in London by a pharmaceutical company who entitled this name to it’s compressed tablets, being marketed as “Tabloid” pills. After this incident, a proprietor in London, decided to generate newsprints in the form of ‘Tabloid’.

Slowly and steadily, this term became synonymous to every compact commodity in the marketplace. The ‘Tabloid’ have also been categorized in two types:

Red top Tabloids – This includes the short stories on a criminal incidents, highlights a ‘Gossip column’ and touch few other emotional human aspects such as junk food news, misuse of narcotics. This tabloid tries to publicize the news that consists of shock value.

Compact Tabloids – An editorial style engrossed with broadsheet newspapers. The major purpose is to fade away the writing style of Red top tabloids. This style was picked up by the major newspapers of London such as Daily Mail, Daily Express etc. in 1970s.

Moving further the term got associated with Printing machines that print ‘Tabloids’. A trend of wide format printers has recently come into picture that incorporates the Tabloids of two types – Tabloid and Super tabloid printers.

The size of Tabloid printers is 11 × 17 inches and Super Tabloid printers is 13 × 17 inches. Both these Tabloid Printing machines can print the letters which are larger or double than the standard letter-size. There are immense benefits of using Tabloid Printing Machines such as the easy accommodation of small-sized papers.

These are versatile in terms of shapes and configurations.  In addition to printing, they are also equipped with other functions such as photocopy, scan and fax. Based on this versatility, the Tabloid printing machines can also be segregated as single-function or multifunctional machines.

Most of these machines are turning to inkjet nowadays. Getting inkjet will shoot down the processing costs of these wide-format printers. The most revolutionary feature that has been introduced recently in Tabloid Printing Machines is a mobile device print feature such as Wi-Fi Direct, Google’s Cloud Print, Apple’s Air Print, Near-Field Communication and several others.

Getting active on paper-size technology, the ‘oversize’ paper of inkjet is mentioned as ‘tabloid stock’. Any printer is considered to support at least Tabloid printing. However, if we talk about HP Officejet 7610, Wide Format e-All-in-One and Epson Workforce WF – 7520, they also support Supertabloid printers. The ‘Tabloid’ and ‘Supertabloid’ printers together are also referred as ‘Large format” output as per the lingos of Printing industry.

There is a wonderful feature in multi-functional printers. Since they carry out various operations, they consist of an ‘Automatic Document Feeder’ that speed up the printing and scanning processes to make it available for other operations. Moreover, the technology has upgraded the Tabloid printing machines so much, such that they can automatically scan both sides of the documents. This feature is also termed as ‘Auto-duplexing’.

The advanced features such as built-in Wi-Fi, slots for flash memory cards and USB port, feature for printing straight from tethered Digital Camera, a USB flash drive or a hard drive will slowly boost the demand of ‘Tabloid’ printers all over the world.
