Working of Newspaper Printing Press

The production of newspaper will start only by collection of daily stories and directing them to their editors through electronic mails who are responsible for editing of these stories. After this, the news will move into the press which will start from the stage of pre-press.

In this stage of printing, the marketing department will inform the editors about the advertisements to be published on the specific page. Page planning is accomplished on a dummy sheet that goes to the graphic section via editorial section to translate dummy sheets into digital form. Once the stories are compiled and newspaper inserts are printed they will be out for the newspaper prints. Also, there are two stages in press – Lithographic and Impression stage. Depending on the printing technology used in the newspaper printing press, the sophisticated newspapers use CTP (Computer to Plate) and CTM (Computer to Machine).

In the lithographic section, the printed page of stories and advertisements get registered on the plate which is aluminium-like iron sheet in A3 size of newspaper that runs print on the printing machine. The function of CTP is to registers the pre-press information on the plate. A fixed plate is already present at Lithographic section to run prints.

Under the impression stage, the final outcome of the designed work comes out. This process is able to print thousand copies of newspapers to be circulated in many areas. The procedure includes hanging of plate over Printing Machines and number of copies will be in circulation and sold to readers. Generally, the newspapers scheduled for the next day has to be printed a day before the publishing day for both current and advanced pages. The current page includes the major news and advanced pages involve feature articles, editorial, letters to editor, opinions, advertisements etc.

The newspaper circulation is carried out over different distribution centres in the entire country. Hence, the machines that carry out this process of printing are very critical to maintain as they have to be continuously operational. Hence, the suppliers of these printing machines sometimes either need to import the machines from abroad or they can buy a local according to the quality of prints they want to deliver in order to achieve better readability.

Book Printing – A job performed on demand

Generally, printing books is a job performed in short-run printing that has a variety of easy-to-use templates for book design and quick service that helps in designing the book cover or to edit the book content. After downloading the template, the whole book will be printed at cheaper rate.

One print-run with book cover can be taken before printing the entire book. The use of the template is easy, cost-effective, super-friendly and gives good quality print. The paperback and the different colours of the books are also decided by the print-on-demand service. If one is executing a short print-run the run time will take less than two days.

The printing machine needs to be installed in a printing press that requires inked surface and a print medium. The printing press is generally used for printing large volumes. If there will be a computerized setting, the outcome will be more strict and indulge less physical labour.

Majorly, letterpress printing is to be used for the limited edition books for collectors whereas for bulk printing offset is preferred as high quality printing is not demanded. To print over 500 copies, that too with high quality reproduction, sheet-fed offset is used.
